Lomond School, a private day and boarding school in Helensburgh, Scotland, has become the first school in the UK to accept Bitcoin for tuition fees.
Announced by head teacher Claire Chisholm at a cryptocurrency conference, the move aims to accommodate requests from both local and international families while reducing currency risks for overseas students.
The school, which charges £38,700 annually for boarders, emphasized strict compliance with AML regulations and UK financial laws. Bitcoin payments will initially be converted into pounds using FCA-registered partners CoinCorner and Musqet. In the future, Lomond may consider holding Bitcoin directly in its treasury.
This step aligns with the school’s modern approach—it was also one of the first in Scotland to offer the International Baccalaureate and co-ed boarding.
